WHAT A SNAPSHOT ACTUALLY IS

A snapshot is a record of every wallet holding a token at one specific moment in time, along with how much each one holds. People use snapshots for airdrops (reward existing holders), eligibility checks (gate access by holdings), and governance counts (vote weighting).

The deliverable everyone expects is a CSV with two columns: wallet,balance. That's the file the airdropper eats.

COMMON MISTAKES THAT BURN PEOPLE

• Including LP pools. Your AMM pool address holds a huge chunk of supply. Airdrop to it and the tokens vanish into liquidity — you just paid the pool, not your community. Cluck filters these by default.
• Including locked vesting / Streamflow contracts. Same problem — tokens go to a contract that won't redistribute them. Cluck filters these by default.
• Including exchange hot wallets. If a CEX holds tokens for users, the CEX won't credit your airdrop to those users. The exchange just keeps it. Filter them or skip CEX-classified addresses.
• Snapshotting too late. If your snapshot moment is announced, snipers buy in to qualify. Take snapshots at unannounced or surprise times.
• Including dust holders. Wallets holding less than transaction-fee value cost you SOL rent for nothing. Set a min-balance filter.
• Forgetting deduplication. One wallet can have multiple ATAs (associated token accounts) for the same mint. Snapshot tools that don't deduplicate by owner end up double-counting. Cluck deduplicates.
• Not double-checking the mint. Always paste the canonical mint, not a wrapped or re-deployed copy.
